We believe that the church is made up of real people, who take time out of their schedules to contribute to the kingdom of God. Therefore, the majority of people that make up our ministry team, are volunteers. They're people just like you, who believe that they have a place in the active leadership of the church. If you have any questions for these people, come on a Sunday, and there's a very good chance that you will see everyone of them!

Director of Roots Ministry - Grant Kay

Grant is the Director of Roots Ministry and Children's Ministry at Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church, and until July 2014 served as the Worship Director at Roots. Grant was born and raised in San Diego and spent most of his life in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. He loves PB and the widely diverse community that makes it up. Grant graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2013 and is currently attending Bethel Seminary, seeking his Masters in Divinity. Grant believes that justice and redemption are at the heart of Christianity, and that we as the church are called to be the breaking in of the Kingdom of God here on earth. He is dedicated to bringing people closer to God and loving them the way Christ taught. Grant is always available to talk or meet, and is always looking for ways to serve.

Director of Worship and Creative Arts - Stephen Rinker

Stephen Rinker is the director of worship and creative arts at Roots. He is a senior at Point Loma Nazarene University finishing a B. A. in Music. Originally from Los Angeles, Stephen is stoked to be a resident of San Diego. In addition to being involved at Roots, Stephen is involved with chapel ministries at PLNU and also serves as the organist for San Diego First Church of the Nazarene. Stephen loves music for the way that it can bring people together, and also for the ways that we can respond in Worship to God through music. Stephen plans to continue working in music ministry after graduating.

Assistant Director of Roots Ministry - Robert Gerow

Robert is the Director of Youth Ministry at Pacific Beach Presbyterian, Roots PB's parent church.  He has been involved at Roots for over 4 years, both in the worship team and in other capacities.  Robert has had a relationship with God since childhood, and is passionate about Christian ministry serving all ages! Robert is working on his BS in Biblical Studies at Liberty University Online. If you are interested in getting involved with the Youth Ministry, Robert is the man to contact.

Assistant Preacher/Care Director - Ty Smith

Ty has been with Roots since the very beginning. Prior to volunteering with Roots, he heard God's calling to volunteer his time with PBPC's Children's and Youth ministries. We are thankful to have someone that is very positive and energetic when it comes to working with the Children, the Youth and with Roots. Knowledgeable of the Bible, he is able to help apply scripture to everyday life.
